Hello Everyone,
I spent the first few days of my time in Colorado watching the elk engage in the annual ritual of the rut. This ritual includes bulls forming "harems" of cows, nervously guarding those cows, stealing cows from other harems, and bugling back and forth either to warn other bulls to stay away, or to announce their approach. I also had the privilege of seeing a few antler clashes Jason Takohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00254381568235592436noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3261054628854639603.post-43694446516192921092016-03-07T13:25:00.001-08:002016-03-07T13:25:25.526-08:00Oil Painters of America Acceptance!

I'm happy to announce my acceptance as a member of the prestigious Oil Painters of America. This is an organization that features the finest representational oil painters in the United States.
I am also honored to announce that my painting Duckweed & Breeze was accepted into the Oil Painters of America National Juried Exhibition which will be held at Southwest GalleryJason Takohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00254381568235592436noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3261054628854639603.post-20355631405264965432016-02-27T09:33:00.001-08:002016-02-27T09:33:34.739-08:00Mountain Goats at NightHello Everyone,
I have always been intrigued by nocturnal paintings, especially the western nocturnal paintings of artists like Frank Tenney Johnson. However, nocturnal wildlife paintings seem to be rare, and I have never seen a nocturnal painting showing mountain goats.
These two paintings show mountain goats traveling through extreme alpine country on a starlit night. Below is the largest painting I have done to date, and one that I am very happy with, both because of the way it turned out and because of the experience it invokes.
Lake of Glass was my the primary destination in Rocky Mountain National Park. I trained all summer, and once in Colorado I packed my gear and hiked for over 4 miles, with an elevation gain of over 1,500 feet, Jason Takohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00254381568235592436noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3261054628854639603.post-4813200669843921022016-02-15T18:04:00.000-08:002016-02-15T18:04:30.878-08:00New Painting!Hello Everyone,
I have been busy these last few months working on paintings from my September trip to Colorado. One of the places I painted was in Mt. Evans, in central Colorado. Mountain goats can be found at the top of this mountain. When I arrived there I set up my easel to plein air paint, despite the fact that the winds were incredibly strong. Mountain goats have no problem with this, but Jason Takohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00254381568235592436noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3261054628854639603.post-17997286511689293512016-02-03T07:08:00.000-08:002016-02-03T07:10:13.620-08:00April WorkshopHello Everyone,
I will be teaching three workshops this year. The first one will be a five-day plein air painting workshop, April 18-22 in Cary, North Carolina. See full description below...
This workshop will focus on learning and developing the
techniques and philosophy of plein air painting. Plein air painting is the best
way to not only gather accurate colors and values in a landscape, Jason Takohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00254381568235592436noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3261054628854639603.post-39711977882476469012016-01-19T07:32:00.000-08:002016-01-19T07:32:31.776-08:00Preserving the PastHello Everyone,
I hope you had a blessed Christmas and a wonderful start to the New Year! For many of us, the new year marks not only a new beginning, but also the passage of time. And we may ponder different memories of these times now past. For me, certain locations can represent a feeling of nostalgia and tell a story about the past. When I paint certain locations I will sometimes think aboutJason Takohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00254381568235592436noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3261054628854639603.post-55056127876152965102015-12-31T09:39:00.000-08:002015-12-31T09:39:31.856-08:00Looking back and aheadHello Everyone,
2015 is almost over. At this time a lot of people like to look back on the past year and recount the events and decisions that were made while they look forward to the New Year. My faith teaches that this is a time to be thankful for what we have been given while we look forward to a New Year.
I want to take this time to thank all of you. It has been several months since I last posted on my blog. In September, my family and I went to Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. I was able to get incredible reference material that I'm working on translating into paintings.
The painting I posted today is of Lake of Glass, a beautiful alpine lake that is surrounded on three sides by a cathedral of mountain peaks. "Thunder on the Prairie" sold at Highlands Art Gallery. Many thanks to Highlands!
My latest painting was inspired by a scene near the Wind River in western Wyoming. This butte, in the Wind River Reservation, caught my attention as we traveled north along Highway 26 to our cabin in Dubois, Wyoming. I apologize for taking a long time to post. I have been working on several paintings and when I get into painting, I often neglect other things like eating healthy, exercise, social life, and blog posts.

This evening is the opening for Plein Air Camp Hill. This year I decided to challenge myself and paint a subject that constantly moves, horses. I hope that everyone is getting prepared for this joyous season which is now upon us. Christmas has always been one of my favorite times of the year, but as a child I always got somewhat depressed on the night of December 25th because I thought it was all over. As an adult, I learned that December 25th was actually the beginning of Christmas, whereas the time before is known as&Jason Takohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00254381568235592436noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3261054628854639603.post-42097341473196753772014-12-04T15:55:00.000-08:002014-12-04T15:55:32.845-08:00Two New PaintingsHello Everyone,
