New Paintings and Great News!

Hello Everyone,

I hope that all is well and you are anticipating the joyous season of Christmas! I received some great news the other day, I have been invited to participate in the prestigious Door County Plein Air Festival in Door County Wisconsin, July 2014. This is a great honor since it is by invitation only. I hope you can be there to see all the beautiful art that will be created that week.

Below I have two new paintings fresh off the easel. Sadly the digital images don't show the bold brushwork and subtle colors that only an original painting can have. Both of these would make a beautiful Christmas gift for that someone special. If you are interested in adding either of these masterful paintings to your collection, please let me know. I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas!

The Waterfowl Festival

Hello Everyone! I hope that you are having a beautiful autumn. My family and I made a trip to Minnesota a month ago to see family and friends and to capture some of the autumn colors. The leaves were just starting to turn and it was so good to be back in my home state.

This next weekend, Nov 8-10, is the Waterfowl Festival in Easton, Maryland. For those of you who have never been there, they turn the town of Easton into a outdoor enthusiast's and art lover's paradise. Many world-class landscape and wildlife artists will be on-hand with their original paintings and sculptures. I will have many beautiful brand new paintings there, some of which are posted below. And this year I have the honor of teaching one of the MasterClass Workshops Thursday morning from 9am-3pm. Be sure to click on the links for more detail. This is one of the best art shows in the world!! I hope to see you there! In the meantime please check out some of my new paintings below.

Three Big Shows!

As the weather cools down, the art scene is heating up. My work will be exhibited in three big shows this autumn. The first is the American Wildlife Art exhibition at the Allentown Art Museum of the Lehigh Valley. This show will exhibit the works of many great wildlife artists, including masters like Robert Bateman and Carl Rungius. It is truly and honor to have my work in the same show as these great artists. The exhibition runs from September 29th through December 29th, 2013 with an Exhibition Preview Party on September 28th from 6-8pm. The Museum is located in Allentown, PA. Click on above links for more details, and don't miss the historic show!

The second show is the 1st Annual Cumberland Society of Painters Juried Exhibition at Richland Fine Art Gallery in Nashville, TN. Two of my paintings were accepted into this exhibition showcasing the work of 70 of the country's finest painters. The show opens October 3rd at 5pm with an awards reception judged by Peggi Kroll Roberts. The show will run through November 1st.

The third show, but definitely not the least, is the Waterfowl Festival in Easton, MD November 8th-10th. This will be my 9th year at the show, and I have been selected to teach one of the Master Classes at the Academy Art Museum on November 7th. Be sure to come and see my latest work at this incredible show.

New Wildlife Painting and 3 Sold!

Hello Everyone! The Triple Vision Show at Peninsula Gallery in Lewes, DE was great! The weather was beautiful, the food was good and the artwork was spectacular! Three of my paintings sold within the first hour of the opening. See further below which paintings sold. More of my work is still there. Click here to see what is still available.

Immediately below is one of my latest wildlife paintings. I saw this bison in Yellowstone and decided to put him crossing a river on a foggy morning. This painting has many subtle tones of lavenders and greens to which a digital image cannot give justice. If you would like to add this painting to your collection, please contact me at luke_tako@yahoo.com. Please remember, if you purchase a painting from my website or blog, I give you 10 days to decide if it works on your wall. If not, simply ship the painting back for a full refund of the cost of the painting minus the shipping costs. Don't forget about Christmas. Now is the time to commission a beautiful painting for that special person, or for yourself!

2nd Place Award at Plein Air New Hope!

Hello Everyone,

I got a late start at Plein Air New Hope last week due to blowing a brake line in my car right before the event. This left me only a little over a day to paint, but I was able to get three paintings, plus a quick draw completed.

It was a great event with lots of beautiful work, and Buck County Gallery of Fine Art did a great job. New Hope has a very strong history in the world of Impressionistic Art, and it was an honor to be a part of this heritage. There was a bit of confusion during the awards ceremony, but I was just informed today that my painting "At the Dock" took Second Place at the event. Below is my award-winning painting along with a couple other paintings that recently sold. If you are interested in my painting "At the Dock" please contact Bucks County Gallery of Fine Art at 215-862-5272. See more at www.JasonTako.com

New Paintings and New Hope Plein Air

Hello Everyone!

This coming week I will be painting en plein air in Bucks County, Pennsylvania; New Hope to be precise. It's the 2nd Annual Local Color Plein Air in New Hope, PA, put on by Bucks County Gallery of Fine Art. The painting begins on Tuesday, the Quick Draw will start at 1pm, and the Collector's Preview will be Saturday evening, tickets are only $20/person. Click here to see more details. I hope to see you there.

Below are three new paintings to view and add to your collection. Each painting is created in oil, and comes framed and ready to hang on your wall. Contact me at luke_tako@yahoo.com to inquire. See more at www.JasonTako.com.

Aspen Marsh Study
This painting was inspired by a grove of aspen trees I saw out west near the Wyoming/Idaho border in the Grand Teton range. They were in a field of grass, but as I painted I could see a pond in my mind, so in went the pond. This added the perfect touch. I will be doing a larger version of this composition soon, but if small works better on your wall, then this painting will be perfect for you.
9"x12", $1,000, framed.
Contact Jason at luke_tako@yahoo.com to inquire.

Shields Lake Stream
I originally did a plein air painting of this stream back in 2005. It was a warm August evening in Minnesota, only a few miles from where I grew up. While the original plein air painting was good for the time, I have learned so much since then. So using that original painting, I recreated it and improved it. This painting takes me back home to those peaceful wetlands I was raised on where you could hear the frogs and birds in the calm evening light.
11"x14", $1,200, framed.
Contact Jason at luke_tako@yahoo.com to inquire.

The Flower Pot
This was a small plein air painting I did just last week. I loved the composition that the fence and stone walkway gave. And the flowers add a nice touch of color.
6"x8", $300, framed.

It Was Very Hot!!

Plein Air Easton was very hot-in many ways. The heat index was in the triple digits, the artists were world-class, the paintings were incredible, and the sales were awesome!

I painted mostly in Oxford and Blackwater Wildlife Refuge. After a couple days of being out in the sun, the heat was getting to me and I had to take it easy. One artist did get heat exhaustion, but he recovered for the Preview Party which was beautifully done with great food, music and art.

My Quick Draw painting sold within 30 minutes after I started it, and I still had and hour and a half to go. Awards judge and master artist Don Demers gave me an honorable mention for my painting.

Below are an assortment of images for your enjoyment, as well as my sold paintings from the event. My next endeavor will be Local Color Plein Air in New Hope, PA, August 6th-August 11th. Be sure to come to this event and see beautiful artwork being created on the spot in historic Bucks County.

Plein Air Easton Preview

Dear Collectors and Friends,

I hope everyone has been able to stay cool this week. I have not. As you know, this week is Plein Air Easton, and I have been out painting in a heat index of over 100 degrees.

Tomorrow night is the Collectors Preview Party, where attendees get to be the first to see the fresh, wet paintings. As collectors and followers of my work, I thought it was appropriate for you to be among the first to see the paintings I created, and the first to have the option to add these new works to your collection-even if you cannot make it to Easton.

Below are five of the paintings I did this last week at Plein Air Easton. I hope you enjoy this exclusive sneak preview I posted just for you. If you would like to add one of these paintings to your collection, please email me at luke_tako@yahoo.com as soon as possible and I can have the staff at Easton arrange payment with you and hold the painting.

Stay cool and enjoy the paintings!

Checking the Sails
If you look very close, you can see a man working on the sails of his boat. He stood there for a few minutes, long enough for me to add him to the painting.
10"x20", oil on linen panel.
$1,400, framed.

Hinckley Mist
This was the first painting I did for the event. I embellished the light I saw in Oxford, MD that morning in order to give the feeling of the warmth I experienced.
11"x14", oil on linen panel.
$1,200, framed.

Evening at Blackwater
This was painted quickly at Blackwater Wildlife Refuge while the sun was setting behind me. I could hear some type of birds making screeches in the nearby wooded area.
8"x10", oil on linen panel.
$500, framed.

Clouds Over Blackwater
These clouds were magnificent! Gentle giants hovering low over the wetlands and distant landscape.
6"x8", oil on panel.
$300, framed

Sika Refuge
When I pulled up to this empty house I was captivated by the ambient green light under the front porch. When I got out of my car I was startled to see some Sika Deer looking at me before they hopped off. Later I saw more on the other side of the house.
14"x11", oil on linen panel.
$1,200, framed

Plein Air Easton is this coming week! Some of the festivities and painting has already started. I have all my panels prepped and ready to go. I hope to see you there and be able to show you my latest work. Below are are some new paintings. If you would like to have any of these beautiful paintings added to your collection, send me an email at luke_tako@yahoo.com or contact one of the galleries that represent my work.

Afternoon Orchard Light
In this painting I love how the afternoon light shimmers through the spring leaves and apple blossoms.
18"x24", oil on linen
$3,000, framed. Contact Jason at luke_tako@yahoo.com to inquire.

June Afternoon
This stream caught my attention while I was out painting. The bare tree trunks give interest and echo the shape of the outer edge of the center trees.
9"x12", oil on linen panel
$1,000, framed. Contact Jason at luke_tako@yahoo.com to inquire.

Two Red Barns
This painting was done entirely with a palette knife, lots of thick paint and vibrant colors give a powerful sense of light in a strong composition.
8"x10", oil on panel
$500, framed. Contact Jason at luke_tako@yahoo.com to inquire.

Leaning Into the Light
Light is the subject of this landscape. It shimmers through the trees and sets everything aglow.
11"x14", oil on linen panel
$1,200, framed. Contact Jason at luke_tako@yahoo.com to inquire.
