Sales and Awards at Plein Air Camp Hill

Hello Everyone!

Plein Air Camp was a great success! The event gets better every year. We were allowed to paint anywhere in south central PA so I took the opportunity to paint some country scenes. My first painting, The Basement Door sold before the Collector's Preview Party even began. This painting also received the People's Choice Award and Honorable Mention. I also sold The Horse Barn and my quick draw painting The Yellow House. See below for photos of these paintings.

The next event that I will be at is History Meets the Arts this coming June 12-14. I will be giving several talks on painting outdoors and exhibiting my latest works at the show. If you like art, if you like history, this is an event you will not want to miss.

Plein Air Camp Hill Tomorrow Night!

Teton Aspens, Plein Air Camp Hill Next Week!

OK, I admit it, I've had a thing for aspen trees lately, if you have not been able to tell. I have been putting them in many of my recent paintings. Call it my "Aspen Phase." And it's a phase that could last a long time. That beautiful white bark catches so many of the surrounding colors, and the black patterns are so fun to play with.

Teton Aspens, my latest painting, is a beautiful rendition of how ambient light can effect the white bark of aspen trees. The white barn picks up all kinds of blues, greens and even magenta colors. Check out the brushwork and all the color on the aspen bark in the detail image below. These aspens were on the western side of the Grand Teton Mountains in Wyoming. I wanted to give the viewer beautiful display of light and color along with a feeling of depth and mystery. Also, some may wonder why I'm not doing Plein Air Easton this year. I did not apply this year since I was accepted into Door County Plein Air which starts the same day Plein Air Easton ends. If you can make Door County I have been told it is an incredible event with some of the top Plein Air artists in the world. More information to follow.

New Wildlife Painting

Hello Everyone,

After weeks of working on ideas, sketches and preliminary studies I have finally finished my latest wildlife painting. I saw these two young Mule Deer at the base of the western side of the Grand Teton mountains in Wyoming. While the Tetons separate Wyoming from Idaho, there is a small section on the western side that is technically Wyoming. These deer were not too concerned about my presence, but something else had them concerned.

The cautious and curious expression of the deer was my objective, but the light is just as important. While the computer doesn't do it justice, this painting is filled with beautifully sophisticated tones of green and subtle lavenders with hints of blue and sienna. It has all the strength of realism with the interest of painterly brushwork. I ordered a custom handmade frame from America West Frames especially for this painting.

What was done in the field and what wasn't?

Some landscape paintings are done en plein air (on location) and some in the comfort of the studio. I know that many collectors, and especially my artist colleagues like to know which paintings were done where. So I created a new webpage on my website www.JasonTako.com called "Field Studies." Upcoming Shows and Paintings

Hello Everyone,

Spring is finally on the way and I'm gearing up for History Meets the Arts this coming June 12-14. If you have not been to this show, created by Lord Nelson's Gallery in Gettysburg, PA, you must come and see this incredible event. This year, for the first time the show will be held at the Gettysburg College Ballroom. Over 40 nationally renown artists will be in person with their latest works. Besides commissions, I'm working on some beautiful new western wildlife paintings and landscape paintings that I plan to exhibit at History Meets the Arts. See the link above for more details.

Some of you who follow my summer schedule may have noticed that I'm not in Plein Air Easton this year. This is due to the fact that I was invited to paint in the prestigious Door County Plein Air Festival in Door County, Wisconsin which begins the exact same time Plein Air Easton ends. Easton is an incredible event, but given my inability to bi-locate, and a desire for a change of scenery, I had to pass on Easton this year. I wish the artists and staff at Plein Air Easton the best of luck and cool weather.
