Here Come the Boys, oil on linen, 18"x24"

Pintail ducks are arguably the most elegant ducks in the world. I love painting their dark heads which contrast to beautifully with their white breast and gray sides. Not the mention the sleek scapulars on their backs which fall onto their sides and the sprig tail with gives them their name. This painting shows a hen resting in the water and being approached by two drakes in early spring. It's mating season and both drakes will try to win her over with unusual displays of their heads and tails.
